July update from The Priory

Is it just me, or as we progress through the summer, is the weather getting worse rather than better? At least the lawns are not that pale shade of brown this year – so far anyway.

The garden is looking great at The Priory thanks to John, so the residents are able to take the air in a wonderful setting – in between the showers. We have had a few of our musicians play outside over the last month, which is lovely to see and listen to.

Hoping that the weather will settle down this month, we are planning for our Family Tea Party on Saturday 5th August, from 2-4:30 pm. Please do come along whatever the weather as we have plenty of room inside if needed. You can drop by anytime as we will be serving tea, coffee and cakes all afternoon, plus homemade scones for a cream tea. Please let us know if you are able to pop in.

Our last outing was to the Red Lion in Lacock. It was a lovely outing with 8 residents and their families joining us. Everyone had a good time even though the service was a little slower than usual – but it was a warm day and Lacock was busy. The minibus took us to and from the door so it was easy access for everyone, whether they were walking or helped with frames and wheelchairs. We will do another pub outing in the winter.

For September, we are planning a cream tea visit to Bowood House on Tuesday 26th September. We plan to leave the home at 2:15pm to arrive at 2:45 for a 3 pm tea. As with the Red Lion visit, we will meet families at Bowood, so once again, please let us know if you can join us.

We have also welcomed Pam Luck to The Priory last week. Pam is friends with both Vera and Moreen. Vera has very kindly been showing Pam the ropes! Pam also celebrated her birthday with us for which Helen baked her favourite cake – lemon drizzle. Happy birthday!

Tomorrow, Brenda Mawhood will also be joining for a few weeks holiday with us, visiting family and friends in the areas. A very warm welcome to both of you.

The next Residents’ Meeting will be on Friday 21st July at 11:15 am. As always, minutes will be shared with everyone.

We will also be running our annual Quality Survey in July. Just a simple set of questions to make sure we are doing everything we can for our residents, families and staff. We are preparing an on-line version that we will send out to families on email. As of Tuesday next week – 18th July – there will also be hard copies in reception. If you would like to complete one of these with a resident, that would be wonderful. At the same time we will be asking keyworkers to go through the survey with their nominated residents.
